French
From September 2014 teaching a language is compulsory at Key Stage 2. We have chosen to teach French as a modern foreign language.
In teaching French we aim to allow pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. We aim to make learning another language fun and exciting thus encouraging children to learn further languages when they move on to high school.
French is taught through small group teaching delivered by a French-speaking member of staff. This small group approach allows children to develop and understand:
- Spoken and conversational French
- Communicating and discussion in French
- French pronunciation and intonation
- Reading and writing in French
- France – the country and its culture
