Parent Workshops and Support

Parental Workshops 2019 - 2020

We had very positive feedback on the Parental Workshops we ran last year and we want to build on this success in 2019. 

We are pleased to run the following workshops this year:

Autumn Term 1

Autumn Term 2

Spring Term 1

Welcome year 3 and new parents

Date: Thursday 12th September 2019

Time: 2:00pm

Aims of the workshop:

  • Introduction to Kilburn Park School
  • Daily routines
  • Expectations
  • Basic safeguarding at Kilburn Park School

Staff running workshop: Miss Barry, Miss Saville and Mrs Shah

All new parents are welcome! 

 

Supporting your year 6 child with SATs

Date: Thursday 12th November 2020

Time: 3:00pm

Aims of the workshop:

  • Why are the SATs important?
  • Strategies to support your child with their preparation
  • How to manage your child’s anxieties.

Staff running workshop: Miss O’Reilly and Miss Kilgallon

All year 6 parents are welcome!

 

 

 

Supporting my child with reading at home

Date: Monday 11th November 2019

Time: 9:00am

Aims of the workshop:

  • What makes a good reader?
  • Why reading for pleasure is so important
  • Strategies to support children at home
  • How to ask questions to deepen your child’s understanding

Number of spaces available: 20 spaces

 

Healthy living

Date: Monday 3rd December 2019

Time: 1:30 pm

Aims of the workshop:

  • What is healthy eating?
  • Why it is important to have a balanced diet
  • Is my child a healthy weight?
  • Parent and child Healthy Cooking Class

Staff running workshop: Mrs Shah and Ms Campbell

Number of spaces available: 10 spaces (5 adults, and 5 children)

Develop fluency in maths

Date: Monday 10th February 2020

Time: 2:00pm

Aims of the workshop:

  • What is fluency in maths?
  • Strategies to support a child’s fluency development at home
  • Understanding the Calculation Policy

Keeping your child safe on-line

  • What is some of the dangers children face while surfing the net?
  • What is on-line bullying?
  • How can I keep my child safe?
  • Should my child be using social media platforms
  • How much time should my child spend on-line?

Being Active

Date: Tuesday 7th July 2020

Time: 9:00 am

Aims of the workshop:

  • Why it is important to stay healthy
  • How much exercise should a child get
  • Fun ways to keep the whole family moving
  • 20 minute activity taster session

Maths Workshop

Our recent Parent's Maths Workshop focused on the following: 

  • What is fluency in maths?
  • Strategies to support a child’s fluency development at home
  • Understanding the Calculation Policy

 

Healthy Living Coffee Morning - December 2018

The Community Nurse came in and did a workshop with parents, explaining the importance of healthy living.  She gave real life examples of ways to improve the wellbeing of our families.

 

There was an opportunity for parents to try healthy breakfast and snack ideas as well as healthy home baked Banana Bread and Cheese Scones.
