Relationship and Sex Education (RSE)

Following the introduction of the new government guidance related to Health, Relationships and Sex Education, we, at Kilburn Park carried out and held a consultation process with our school community. This has now concluded. You can find our curriculum towards the end of this page.

At Kilburn Park, we strongly believe that each and every child has an entitlement to a full and rounded education, which includes educating them with regards to their personal well-being and development through a comprehensive age appropriate programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. Through teaching this programme we will provide all of our children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.

From September 2020, the Department for Education made changes to relationships and sex education guidance following nationwide consultation and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements. The statutory guidance can be found at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education

This guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, well-being, safeguarding and healthy relationships.

Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up will give children and young people the information, skills and positive values to have safe, fulfilling relationships and help them take responsibility for their own well-being.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), along with Health Education, has been statutory from September 2020 and forms part of the National Curriculum.

In conjunction with the school community, the Brent School Improvement Partnership and the LDBS guidance we have reviewed our PSHE & RSE curriculum and policy so we can be sure our RSE provision is appropriate for our pupils based on their:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and disabilities
