At Kilburn Park, we believe that every child is entitled to a broad and balanced education that supports their academic achievement as well as their personal development, health, wellbeing and safety. Through Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, Relationships Education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), we aim to give pupils the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to keep themselves and others safe, develop healthy and respectful relationships, understand and respect themselves and others, and make informed and responsible choices as they grow. This reflects the aims set out in our updated RSE Policy.

Relationships and Health Education

Relationships Education is a statutory part of the primary curriculum. Our provision has been reviewed and updated for September 2026 with regard to the Department for Education's statutory guidance for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education.

Our curriculum supports children to develop their understanding of areas including:

• families and people who care for them

• caring friendships

• respectful relationships

• self-respect and respect for others

• keeping safe and personal boundaries

• age-appropriate understanding of consent

• online relationships and online safety

• physical health and wellbeing

• mental and emotional wellbeing

• healthy lifestyles

• growing and changing

• puberty and menstrual wellbeing.

Our 2026 statutory coverage audit maps these aspects across the relevant stages of our curriculum. 

Our approach

Learning is age appropriate and carefully sequenced so that children's knowledge and understanding develop as they move through school.

When planning and delivering our curriculum, we consider the needs of our pupils, including their age and stage of development, and ensure that teaching supports pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Our policy also has regard to relevant legislation and statutory guidance, including the Equality Act 2010, the National Curriculum for Science, the SEND Code of Practice and Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Safeguarding is central to our approach. Through PSHE and Relationships Education, pupils learn how to recognise safe and unsafe situations, understand appropriate boundaries, identify trusted adults and know how to seek help or report concerns.

Working with parents and carers

We recognise that parents and carers play an important role in helping children develop their understanding of relationships, health and growing up. We aim to be open and transparent about what children are taught and provide information so that families can understand how RSE and related learning develop across the school.
