Spanish
From September 2014 teaching a language is compulsory at Key Stage 2. We have chosen to teach Spanish as a modern foreign language.
In teaching Spanish, we aim to allow pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. We aim to make learning another language fun and exciting thus encouraging children to learn further languages when they move on to high school.
Spanish is taught through whole class teaching delivered by a Spanish-speaking member of staff. This approach allows children to develop and understand:
- Spoken and conversational Spanish
- Communicating and discussion in Spanish
- Spanish pronunciation and intonation
- Reading and writing in Spanish
- Spain– the country and its culture
